Welcome to the latest issue of Recruit2Hire TidBits!
I know it's been awhile since I published the newsletter,
but I've been busy adding new services and resources to
the web site for you. I hope the new navigation makes
it easier for you to find what you need to hire a
Rainmaker or find a new job!
Another hot topic that was discussed in the online
chat for AZSalesPros last month, is hiring the "over-
qualified" sales person. What does it mean to you
when you hear that term "over-qualified"? Your feedback
would be very much appreciated! Send your responses
to me You can also access the chat transcript
by joining the group and going to the Files
section. They are at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AzSalesPros/
Don't forget to check out our recommended
books this month. I found a great book on how you
can create "Rainmakers" in your own company.
Enjoy!

infect the corporate body and diminish or prevent its
growth."

Inspire Yourself By NOT Working
__________________________________________________________
Are you totally focused on your organization and career?
Do you ever feel that in order to effectively carry out
your responsibilities you have to be available 24/7,
year around, with no time for yourself? Are you
constantly on the run? Do you feel like you are working
as hard as you possibly can but still not getting the
results you desire?
If you answered yes to any of those questions, you are
not alone. You could be past the point of diminishing
returns, and, more importantly, you may be missing
out on an excellent opportunity to achieve success
in a better way, actually getting more from less.
Sound interesting? Would you like to get better
results with less stress and enjoy your life a
little more?
Can a hobby help you professionally?
Recently an article in Psychology Today compared
the lives of Nobel laureates in the discipline of
chemistry to other equally well educated and
positioned, but less decorated, scientists in the
same field. Almost all of the Nobel laureates
had a hobby or significant interest outside of
chemistry. And very few of the less successful
scientists had a significant interest outside
of their work in chemistry.
Conclusion: the scientists who were able to step
away from their normal surroundings and
periodically focus on another interest were much
more successful than those who were seemingly
more focused on their work.
In another example, Isaac Newton, arguably the
greatest scientist of all time, attributed many
of his most significant discoveries to time off
when the European plague had forced the closing
of Cambridge University, where Newton worked.
Luckily for us, Newton went back to his farm in
Lincolnshire to wait it out. While waiting on
the farm, he made the lives we live today
possible through many amazing discoveries.
Ideas grow from fresh perspectives
You’ve had the experience of having a
brainstorm while you were not focusing on work
— at the beach, fishing, playing golf, just
relaxing. Many times we can see the trees best
when we step back from the forest.
It’s all about balance. You need to work hard
to be successful and you also need to give
your mind an opportunity to step back and
get out of its normal surroundings.
Perhaps for you it is a course of study
totally unrelated to what you do, or it’s
a vacation in some very different location
or possibly just hanging out around the house.
I have experienced this principle so many
times I could hardly count them. I never
come back to my office from a few days off
without bringing back a list of great ideas
I thought of while I was away.
It isn’t that I spend my vacation time thinking
about work, because I don’t. Usually I am totally
involved in whatever activity I am sharing with
my family. However, many times when we relax in
a different environment, or enjoy some activity
totally unrelated to our job, we subconsciously
see things from a different perspective. And,
many times this different perspective will
provide new answers to some old problems.
It is amazing to me how many leaders are
willing to make a type of Faustian bargain
to achieve their success. However, in their
version of the story, the leader plays both
Faust and Mephistopheles, convincing
themselves that by selling out their lives to
their work they will achieve the success they
want.
Unfortunately many of those people lose it all.
They sacrifice their family, health, personal
development and relationships and, as Faust was
doomed to never be satisfied, they still don’t
obtain the success of which they dreamed. And
if they do happen to achieve their success it
is at an exorbitant price.
Remember, it is results that we want. And, many
times getting those results requires stepping
back and spending some time with your family or
in some type of personal development or relaxation.
I am convinced that, most of the time, the people
that get the best results are balanced.
Start small. Try not working this weekend and see
what you discover.

Human resources news
Seen in Peter Weddle's
free monthly newsletter for recruiters.
Society
for Human Resource Management, and
CareerJournal.com unveiled the results
of a recent survey of HR professionals
and managerial and executive employees.
It found that 83% of employees were
extremely or somewhat likely to seek
new employment once the job market recovers.
What are they looking for? Fifty-three
percent want better compensation and
benefits, 35% are dissatisfied with their
career development prospects, and 32% say
they are ready for a new experience. What
are HR professionals doing to retain top
performers? Sixty-two percent are offering
tuition reimbursement, 60% are offering
competitive vacation and holiday benefits,
and 59% are offering competitive salaries.
What’s missing (or, at least, not mentioned)?
An internal mobility system and commitment to
individual development that will give
employees the new experiences necessary
for growth within the organization.

TrueCareers announced the results of a survey
that underscores the growing popularity of
telecommuting among employees. Among the survey’s
respondents, 80% say the ability to work from home
part or full time is an important consideration
when looking for a new job.. That’s down from 92%
last year, but still an impressive level of support.
Why is it so popular? Twenty-four percent of
respondents say telecommuting gives them more
time with their families, 19% say it saves time
and money spent on commuting, and 43% say it
enables them to be more flexible in managing
their workday.
Implementing Lean Hiring: The Revolution Gets Serious
The goal of the hiring revolution is nothing less
than making hiring top talent a systematic business
process. Everything else is secondary --
processing resumes, reducing costs, improving time
to fill, even metrics. While these sub-objectives
are important and will be addressed, they do not
drive the process. Many hiring mistakes are made
when one of these sub-objectives becomes the primary
focus.

Main Vice President
Tom was so excited about his promotion to Vice President
of the company he worked for and kept bragging about it
to his wife for weeks on end.
Finally she couldn't take it any longer, and told him,
"Listen, it means nothing, they even have a vice president
of peas at the grocery store!".
"Really?" he said. Not sure if this was true or not, Tom
decided to call the grocery store.
A clerk answers and Tom says "Can I please talk to the
Vice President of peas?"
The clerk replies "Canned or frozen?"

"Simply put, topgrading is the practice of packing the
team with A players and clearing out the C players,"
Smart writes. "'A players' is defined as the top 10
percent of talent available at all salary levels--best
of class. With this radical definition, you are not a
topgrader until your team consists of all A players.
Period."
The Smart Interviewer will help you avoid costly mishires
and mispromotions and give you strategies and tools to
hire productive, high-caliber employees that meet your

rainmakers, Creating Rainmakers shows readers how to
turn a professional staff into a powerful team of
sales winners. The book cover generating leads, building

Recent study by International search firm reveals
only 10% of executives feel fulfilled in their roles
The study and related book, titled The 5 Patterns of
Extraordinary Careers, find that most workers feel
their current jobs do not leverage their strengths and
interests, their employers cannot be counted on for
career support, and they would consider other job
opportunities if presented.

Superstar sales managers are far rarer to find than
are superstar salespeople. The truth is that no one
will ever perform any better than they are expected
to perform... coached to perform or held accountable
for their level of performance. It is this
expectation and ongoing development role that the
most effective sales managers fulfill.
Sales managers need to have mastery over a large
number of things.

The Average Job Search Can Cost Over $11,000
Staff Writer, The Career News
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The average job search now
lasts 18 weeks, according to 2003 data from the
US Bureau of Labor Statistics. And given that
the typical American worker takes home $34,020
in salary, those 18 weeks between jobs add up
to a stunning $11,776 in lost paychecks,
according to the same data.
That's a harsh realty for most job seekers,
who frequently have less than 30 days worth
of savings to pay the rent and put food on
the table. One way to short-cut this stressful
job search process is to send out the very
best resume possible. Because finding a job
just 3 or 4 weeks faster with an outstanding
resume can put thousands of dollars in lost
salary back in your pocket.
Many job hunters are finding work faster using
the latest edition of "Resume and Cover Letter
Secrets Revealed." With copy-and-paste examples
and insider job-search tips, this how-to guide
has become an Internet best-seller. It's very
affordable and comes with a money-back guarantee.
